A colonoscopy (which I've seen speculated on here) is a pretty quick procedure, and the anesthesia usually used is propofol - from which people come out from under fairly quickly. It certainly doesn't take 12+ hours.

i had a colonoscopy in march and they dont put you under for that. Its not a big deal. They just shove a camera up yer jaxy. I was in and out in about 2 hours (they let you rest in a bed for an hour then send you home)

I point out propofol because that stuff is so different from the old general anesthesia. I completely understand why Michael Jackson would have a doctor give it to him to help him sleep. I have never felt so good and rested like I have after propofol. It feels to me like I caught up on all of my lost sleep, and have slept for a year.
