You know, this just shows how racist you are, You probably think all black women look alike. You see, it wasn't Stacy Abrams, it was Sheila Jackson Lee's braid ball on top of her head. It's just a blessing that they didn't unwind themselves, spread out like octopus legs, and take that sub all the way to the bottom.
If established bases are predictable then they dock there all the time. Guam has a facility depending on the repairs. They may not be able to "limp" from sout China zea to the west coast. Anyway if they're on the surface I can tell you they'll end up in Guam. At least until they can safely submerge and continue to hawaii where there is a repair facility as well as submarine tenders.
Very likely a submerged cargo crate. Thousands have been lost at sea over the past 20 years and are a hazard to all small vessels and subs I would presume.
You would think right? But it’s never been a problem. If they do hit it’s just bounces off. Never had a submerged container collision result in hull damage that I know of.
More common for them to cut off things attached to the sub. That happens a lot.
Far more dangerous are tug and tow operating near shore.
The chain from the tug drops down deep into the water, and the fucking tow doesnt make any noise cause it has no propulsion. All you can hear is the chain clanking and typically it’s at the connection point on the tug, not the middle of the chain.
So you end up with a chain you can’t see or hear drooping down right in front of you. God forbid you catch that chain on the sail. Either the tug is going down or the submarine is gonna take a shitload of damage as the chain tears up the sail.
It’s far more likely they hit another submarine. Despite all the technology a lot of times it comes down to luck. Passive ranging of submerged contacts is extremely difficult even with our technology gap. All it takes is one turn that you don’t see and all of a sudden you are closing range.
Collisions or near collisions happen more than you think, especially at times like this. I would say the odds are high that we are operating more aggressively than usual. Minimum standoff ranges probably lower in exchange for better intel and tracking.
Wish I was still in. I would have read about this incident in real time on message traffic.
Look through your Cold War history books. Sub on sub collision is common. Absolutely this could be a Chinese sub. More likely actually. We would know where other people are.
Doesn’t even take that. Passive tracking is not like the movies. It’s extremely difficult and you are always operating with a fudge factor measured in the thousands.
For example, 99% of the time, range is reported as a whole number. 10k yards. 20k yards. Because we never actually know the real exact number using only passive measures. A lot of the time you are relying on gut feel for the relative motion you see on the screens in front of you.
It’s very very easy to miss one turn and close range for minutes without realizing it. Very easy. The longer you track the easier it is to make that mistake, it’s just mentally exhausting to do this while also managing surface contacts and communication obligations.
I'm sure I remember years ago there was a leak of information where one of our Vanguard class missile submarines (the RN equivalent of the Ohio class) struck some sort of undersea mount and stove piped the whole front of the submarine and heavily damaged the Ballast tanks. They managed to limp back to port.
I'm sure a similar thing happened to one of your Virginia class submarines years ago and by the description of the damage it was an absolute miracle and testament to the crews abilities with damage control that the boat was saved.
We will see. Depends on what the damage is. I think it’s unlikely it was a mine, they were in open ocean. If it was sea mount the front end will be caved in. Damage on the sides or gouging would be collision.
Well you would know better than me. WWII was a while ago. I haven't heard about subs getting hit in recent times so much. Of course, maybe I just wasn't following. I'm just thinking this lady might have a point: https://twitter.com/MorloteSamantha/status/1445866668693934081
We have had several collisions in the last decade. Hartford hit a helicopter dockship in the strait of Hormuz, someone else had one outside Norfolk a few years back. Ran a sub over during training. Then in the 80s we had 3-4 collisions with the Russians.
I have on and off listened to MONKEYWERX and toward the beginning of the year, they (Navy) were chasing something off Florida. He indicated that by the amount of refuelers up (indicating fighters) as well as planes he referred to as sniffers and the fact that an aircraft carrier and her fleet were offshore in the same region for nearly a month, indicated that they were chasing a sub/subs. He also indicated that there are drone subs? Not long after he showed a video that he got his hands on which showed a huge detonation in which he replied ‘I would not want to be anywhere underwater when that thing went off’. From then on that area seemed to be ‘cleaned up’ and the Navy ships, planes etc. just ‘disappeared’.
They just HAPPNED to be in the South China Sea when they "hit unknown object" Nothing to see here, I'm sure it wasn't a mine or underwater missile. Of course not. Oh BTW, can anyone remind me what country Evergrande was in??? Sorry, I'm sure there's no connection. Has nothing to do with EverGreen either, I'm sure. Everyone just names their stuff starting with "Evergr" these days. I'm sure no one has ever heard of any other large companies in that same country going belly up or that they are going to ONE day work weeks or that 21 of 37 providences of that country are rationing power. Of course not, how silly.
Nuclear is always comms for information that has the ability to cause great destruction, nuclear level blackmail that could end countries. Think its just coincidence that you get the names "little boy" "Enola GAY" " Fat man" connected with nuclear and then Japan surrenders? They didnt surrender because of the bombs let me just say.
Recall all our ships going absolutely dead in the water with some kind of jamming tech a couple years ago? China has our number at sea. I've heard this from Navy brass and they're pretty scared as a result.
China keeps proving it to us. That's why Trump said, fine, I can destroy you economically. Biden took all that teeth out of Trump's flexing.
We need a president who can stand up to China or China will stand on our throats.
Taiwan is a phenomenally trained and organized force with advanced technology. The island is also heavily fortified. Taiwan may be small but it is not to be underestimated because they have been training for this moment. Add into that Japan and South Korea? China would be S C R E W E D if they tried anything.
China's force is good for numbers and nothing else. Their soldiers are poorly trained and poorly equipped and the structure of their military is a joke. I said this in another post but all Taiwan would have to do is blow the three gorges. Maybe 3 missiles? Even if China did somehow take Taiwan their government would be ruined. I like to compare Taiwan to WWII era Switzerland. Hitler knew there was no way he could take Switzerland.
Fortifications are pointless on Taiwan, you can shell it with artillery forever from the mainland. If there is battle fought over Taiwan, Taiwan itself will fall for certain, the actual question is what the response would be
What good is Taiwan to the CCP if it's bombed to ashes? Taiwan is needed by the CCP for it's resourses and industry. If Taiwan is blown to shit they have no use for it. And on top of that the whole world would hate them for fighting a war of aggression and wiping a country off the map.
You cant shell it forever, because after the first shell the response starts. The world wouldn't sit there for a week wondering what that loud noise is.
I mean, Red team won because blue team's tactics haven't changed since the cold war.
The other decisive factor was that blue team lost the ability to use networked communications from the outset. We know that Chinese and even Russian doctrine is to counter, not necessarily match our capabilities.
“We basically attempted an information-dominance structure, where information was ubiquitous to our forces. Just like it was in the first Gulf War, just like it has been for the last 20 years, just like everybody in the world, including China and Russia, have watched us do for the last 30 years,” Hyten said according to Defense One. “Well, what happens if right from the beginning that information is not available? And that’s the big problem that we faced.”
The Navy has spent 20 years playing second fiddle to counter terrorism instead of focusing on its actual mission. It's in no shape for a fight. In a recent report many senior field grade officers expressed sentiments that while everyone is up on their diversity training but combat readiness and warfighting is very lacking.
can't find any sauce on this. I don't see how you could make a steam plant go DIW just by jacking around with electronics. you could mess with the offensive and defensive systems but nothing is going to close steam valves before the whole ship is a melted pile of slag.
“Connecticut is one of three Sea Wolf-class boats, a late Cold War attack submarine designed to hunt the most complex Soviet submarines in deep blue water.”

This post has been updated with additional details on the injuries to the crew of USS Connecticut and the location of the collision.
Almost a dozen sailors have been injured after a U.S. nuclear attack submarine hit an unknown underwater object in the South China Sea, USNI News has learned.
The Seawolf-class nuclear attack submarine USS Connecticut (SSN-22) suffered an underwater collision while operating in international waters on Oct. 2 and is returning to port in U.S. 7th Fleet, a U.S. Pacific Fleet spokesman confirmed to USNI News on Thursday.
“The Seawolf-class fast-attack submarine USS Connecticut (SSN-22) struck an object while submerged on the afternoon of Oct. 2, while operating in international waters in the Indo-Pacific region. The safety of the crew remains the Navy’s top priority. There are no life-threatening injuries,” Capt. Bill Clinton told USNI News.
“The submarine remains in a safe and stable condition. USS Connecticut’s nuclear propulsion plant and spaces were not affected and remain fully operational. The extent of damage to the remainder of the submarine is being assessed. The U.S. Navy has not requested assistance. The incident will be investigated.”
A defense official told USNI News about 11 sailors were hurt in the incident with moderate to minor injuries. The attack boat is now headed to Guam and is expected to pull in within the next day, the official said. The underwater strike occurred in the South China Sea and the attack boat has been making its way to Guam on the surface since Saturday, a defense official confirmed to USNI News.
The Naval Base Kitsap-Bremerton, Wash., based submarine deployed on May 27 for the Pacific, the Navy announced at the time. The service has released photographs of the submarine operating in the Western Pacific with port calls in Japan in late July and August. U.S. 7th Fleet commander Adm. Karl Thomas visited the submarine in August, according to the service.
Connecticut is one of three Sea Wolf-class boats, a late Cold War attack submarine designed to hunt the most complex Soviet submarines in deep blue water. Along with USS Sea Wolf (SSN-21) and USS Jimmy Carter (SSN-23), Connecticut is among the Navy’s most capable and sensitive attack boats.
This could be an accident like the SAN FRANCISCO had colliding with "an uncharted seamount" at 500', while doing 30 kts, that destroyed the entire forward half of the boat, killed a few of the crew - 30 kts to dead stop instantaneously. The rest were all lucky to survive and get the submarine on the surface while combatting major flooding and a scrammed rx. They repaired it by cutting the fwd end off of another submarine and welding it onto SF. More likely would be collision with another submarine, or surface vessel.
Or, combat operations caused it. If the latter, we will never hear the whole story. Also, SSN 22 and sister ship 21 are mostly just spare parts bins for 23 anyways.
Hopefully, the boat's Skipper was Cabal aligned, otherwise, this is bad. Not in the "full picture" sense, but how did a U.S. sub collide with something? The buck stops with the Skipper with incidents like this. If he's a white hat, we just lost a critical piece on the board.
It's very good you're resourceful as an individual human being, but u/CMAnon has a point.
You will do what you're ordered and only what you're ordered. If you're ordered to do an Irish Jig and let some chink rim you, you'll do it or face the consequences.
There is no way under the sun that any of the traitorous top brass are ordering its cannon fodder to take back America, especially not when it's busy handing the country over to the enemy.
And since the military will only do as its ordered, when it's order and only that, and their orders are all contrary to the "plan"....
No worries, Stacy Abrams was going snorkeling. It was bound to happen.
IDK, the sub suvived the impact. Sounds sus :p
If there is no damage why is it “ limping “ back ? Thus article says there is damage :
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2021/10/uss-connecticut-submarine-suffers-underwater-collision-indo-pacific-region/
Probably because something other than the nuclear reactor was damaged.

It's just a blessing that they didn't unwind themselves, spread out like octopus legs, and take that sub all the way to the bottom.
How rude and excluding to black bald men who can get pregnant ....
The sub will be a total loss then
Nah.they are made in sections
Can Confirm
You sir win the internet today!
Thanx, fren
How is this not proof of kinetic war going on under our noses?
That sub saw action, prove me wrong!
It's not gotten back yet, so I don't know.
I doubt they'd let it slip, either.
Anyway, it's kinda clunky to fly colors on a sub, right?
Then if some one is on point, we'll find out when it gets to harbor.
Do nuclear subs usually dock in a predictable place? That seems risky as hell.
If it's Pacific it's likely Bellingham, WA, but if it's heavy repairs it might be San Diego or even Portland (dry dock facilities)
Guam has a repair facility and sub base. Nuke capable.
Bremerton. Can and will handle the repairs.
If established bases are predictable then they dock there all the time. Guam has a facility depending on the repairs. They may not be able to "limp" from sout China zea to the west coast. A company I used to work for used had a contract with US Navy to use tugs to push them to their docks in Pearl Harbor.
They used Z-Tugs which had a thick rubber coating on the bow to prevent damage to the subs itself.
Doesnt answer question, but a cool tid-bit to know.
It's a fast attack. Boomers are protected.
HMS Conqueror did it after sinking the Belgrano.
It hit another submarine, or it hit a undersea mountain not on the chart.
I did many deployments there. There is only two explanations.
Very likely a submerged cargo crate. Thousands have been lost at sea over the past 20 years and are a hazard to all small vessels and subs I would presume.

hitting an undersea mountain while you're just going about your business on board must be kinda scary

That son of a bitch went right around us...
how many fucking subs are down there though lol. The ocean is HUGE.
But I get it, they're operating around other subs likely on purpose to gather intel. Thanks for your knowledge.

Yea I was watching that activity for quite awhile. Significant daily monitoring for months. Very odd.
Look into SOSUS.

We are at war with China. Pray for our troops
If one of your subs was injured and still at sea, would you report it to the press? This doesn't make any sense unless it's a bluff.
Submarine... Red October... Sub captain named Bill Clinton.
This story is a coded communication.
I couldn’t believe it when I saw the Cptns name!
There are no coincidences.
Whoa, you got a link for that?
this just got more interesting ...to say the least !

Kinda like Hunt For Red October happening in October
They want China to know that there are US nuclear attack submarines in the South China Sea to back Taiwan.
Milley probably phoned them ahead of time to warn them.
FTFY
More like they want Taiwan to know there are nuclear capable subs there to back China.
Edit: China autocaps on my phone but Taiwan doesn’t. 🤔
You mean west Taiwan.
Does this with God but not satan too.
Loose your CCP smartphone. It is compromised and woke. It has gone to shit.
agreed. submarine locations are top secret, this was released for media and optics. Our military is ... testing the waters.
They probably have the launch codes by know they def know what we have deployed and dont forget they are in charge.

Yeah, we just had a war game not long ago that simulated a battle of Taiwan, and team red (China) won.
Games? Hah, they are not what I'd base my success on. China has huge problems within their ranks
This thread is absolute cringe. Patriots are in control. Besides, Taiwan would wreck China in a fight.
Like the optimism but "wreck" China? Taiwan? What are you smoking?
Taiwan is a phenomenally trained and organized force with advanced technology. The island is also heavily fortified. A pretty good summary
Blue should have been trying out many options. How else can they figure out what works best? That weak ass quote was feigning military weakness.
That's the problem is it not? Fighting yesterday's war ....
Princelings .... and then the equipment .... I am wondering whether it will desintegrate after 90 miles or 100 miles.

That is hardly surprising, but I imagine it would be a Pyrrhic victory.

Will the CCP pounce on the bait?

glad i read all way down in comments to see this one! love it
Hmmmm...Curious, quite curious
Did it hit a Kraken?
Former sub guy here. Probably a fishing boat when they were coming to PD. Probably just banged one of the antennas. Just my guess
Has anyone ever seen the movie

This is exactly what came to mind seeing this story.
From USNI:
“Connecticut is one of three Sea Wolf-class boats, a late Cold War attack submarine designed to hunt the most complex Soviet submarines in deep blue water.”
I was just remarking this sub was used in the same time period as Red October did in the movie.
Happens more often than you know. The fact we had a nuke in the area, though assumable these days now there is proof for someone we keep patrols there.
Nuclear submarine doesn’t mean it has nukes on board - it means it is powered by nuclear reactor.
Such bs... any info of HIGHLY Classified sub would also be highly classified.
Cause they always tell us where our subs are.......
Stop believing everything you read.
Surely all news of the whereabouts of submarines is classified highly - real warfare readiness/posture would require secrecy not press releases. This is highly irregular.
And captains name is Bill Clinton, LOL. It's a coded message.
Um, isn’t that what sonar is for, to avoid “running into” things?
I guess they can't use the sonar if they're trying to be sneaky
