I agree, not showing everything will make that small % of people not understand, what was going on. If you don’t want history to repeat itself then don’t show it. Q said that what was in the ENVELOPES was "Our offer to counter." If the same was also on what Laura showed Jeb, then it had to be a photo, to generate that instant shock and revulsion from everyone, with no time for word processing. What if it was, say, a photo of Poppy Bush hanging from the neck until dead? That would certainly constitute an offer to counter.
Think of the instant shock and mortification of seeing that, if you're the dead asshole's wife or son.
GWB already knew. He was prompted by the agent behind him to show Laura at exactly the moment his hanged daddy-o was passing by in his box. So Laura and Jeb would have that burned into their memory as the last thing they saw as Bush Sr. passed by.

The note had to be very few words or an image. Laura and Jeb are instantly aware so not enough time for reading a sentence.

We’ve all been informed at some point in our lives of someone close passing away. It takes time to process the WORDS. Sometimes moments, sometimes hours or even days.
WORDS must be processed. Different meanings, tones, all must be parsed & could be referring to several things.
A photograph, on the other hand, needs no interpretation. A nice professional clear studio portrait of Pops Bush hanging by the neck would have the instant devastating impact that we witnessed.
