Are there any supplements anyone else is familiar with that I can take besides this? My low is to low and my high is to high, according to them. I’ve looked at my daily foods and can hardly find anything that has cholesterol in it, other than milk. Could I lose 5-8 lbs, sure..would that make a difference?

Yep I would really read up on some alternative perspectives on “high cholesterol”. In the meantime just change your diet, make sure you exercise, then just enjoy your life.
Correct. Many people are 180 degrees WRONG about cholesterol.
Your average doctor does not know shit about cholesterol. He only knows how to sell drugs.
Here is the scoop --
(1) Cholesterol is NOT harmful. It is MANDATORY for your body, as it forms the basis of ALL cells in your body. The cellular membrane is made of cholesterol. ALL hormones in your body are made from cholesterol.
(2) The idea that low cholesterol is harmful is a LIE. The ACTUAL research shows an association (not necessarily causation) between LOW cholesterol and early death, not high cholesterol.
(3) Statin drugs, such as Lipator, show NO benefit ... BUT ... the Big Pharma literature uses statistical manipulation to CLAIM that it is beneficial. In reality, it does not improve health. Most doctors are CLUELESS about this, because MOST doctors NEVER research anything for themselves. They simply parrot back to you what their hospital administrators (who are also clueless) tell them to say, and what the pretty Big Pharma rep shows them with the nice-looking brochures (which are full of lies).
(4) There is no such thing as a "good" or "bad" type of cholesterol. HDL and LDL are neither good nor bad. They are simply DIRECTIONAL. When the body NEEDS cholesterol, the liver sends it to the areas of the body in need. This is the LDL variety. When there is excess in the body that is not needed, the excess is carried back to the liver. This is the HDL variety.
(5) Cholesterol is found in the arteries of people who died of heart attacks and strokes because it was HELPING them, not harming them. When you eat carbohydrates, they convert into sugar in the blood ("glucose"). This blood sugar causes minor cuts in the blood vessels. Cholesterol must be sent there to repair the damage -- like spackle in dry wall. It is because of the high carb diet that more of this process needs to take place, which is why such people have elevated "LDL" cholesterol. This is MISTAKENLY thought by "doctors" to mean that the cholesterol is blocking the arteries. Yes, over time that will happen, but it is because the person continues to eat harmful carbs. If they switch their diet, that will eventually heal.
(6) Cholesterol is made by your body ... BUT ... not enough for optimal health. You SHOULD get MORE cholesterol from your FOOD.
(7) Eating animal foods gives you GOOD amounts of cholesterol ... as long as those animals foods are FULL FAT. Do NOT drink skim milk. Even the "whole" milk in grocery stores are only about 4% fat, whereas real ("raw") milk from a cow can be over 20% fat.
If someone has almost no cholesterol in their diet, that is a VERY BAD thing. They can dump the statins (and probably other drugs, as well) if they dump most of he carbs.
Focus nutrition on animal foods -- full fat -- and most health problems will resolve.

Cholestrol as being evil was ALWAYS false, but it was pushed via fraud (so, what is new ...):
Why Doctors are Wrong About Cholesterol:

Great simplified summary! I've been studying this fraud intently ever since my (ex) MD tried to force statins on me five years ago.
This is great sorry for the late comment I have been prescribed statins and I don't really want to take them so did a search here to see if anyone had discussed. This was exactly my experience around 10 years ago. I went on a low carb diet and my "bad" cholesterol dropped significantly. I haven't been as good lately that way. I am going to give that a try and see what happens.
Red Yeast Rice is a supplement that reduces cholesterol. My husband was prescribed statins, he felt miserable and his blood sugar went through the roof. He immediately went off them. Statins are poison, avoid.
Aspirin is not that great for the liver
Statins DEPLETE CoQ10 from the body. Odd for a medication aimed at protecting the heart, since CoQ10 is required by every cell of the body for energy and for other things. The heart muscle needs CoQ10 more than most other organs; it never gets any long-term rest.
CoQ10 has been used in Japan as a prescribed medicine for certain heart problems for decades now.
Muscle pain is a common statin symptom. The heart is also a muscle, of course.
I take about 1,000 mg daily, along with PPQ, also needed by the body, and like CoQ10 typically in low supply among older people and heart patients.
Life Extension sells CoQ10 combined with Shilajit, said to roughly double its effectiveness. They sell different sizes (50, 100, or 200 mg) and versions without Shilajit also.
Best wishes for getting rid of your symptoms ASAP.
I buy Ubiquinal from Dr. Mercola insted of CoQ10 since the Ubiquinal is a more absorbable form of CoQ10. I had been taking fish oil for years... but still didnt keep me off statins. I even tried other natural resources red yeast, etc. to no avail.
But ANYONE on statins needs Ubiquinal to protect their heart.
I am on Statins and had the joint pain. I am now taking ASEA water 8 oz. daily due to my doc had wanted to raise the statins. The water helped my joint pains.
My Last blood test my cholestoral was normal except my bad cholestoral was only slightly elevated (My main problem). instead of being 100 it was 115. So still taking the low dose of statin now. I am hoping in time my choestoral will go down with the ASEA water as it has for my friend who never took statins but was suggested to do so.
I also need to lose about 25 lbs. which would probably make a difference.
I would rethink staying on a statin. Also, those cholesterol levels that they say are too high, ARE NOT. That's BigPharma continually lowering the "acceptable" level for more new patients and continued sales because of the damage these poisons are doing. The tools that MDs have are drugs, chemo, radiation, and surgery. Others call it cut, poison and burn. You will NOT gain health by using statins. This is cabal lies, their products.
ASEA has helped you? I'm holistically minded, however I have a friend who sells this stuff, it's a multi level marketing company so I'm suspect 🤔
I know people who are suspect of it for that reason. But within one month of drinking ASEA all my aches and pains were gone. It gives me energy so I can participate in an exercise class with other women half my age. (I just turned 70) which I couldn’t do before. Also since using the gel my spider veins have faded. I have a bone spur that is getting smaller, too. And I no longer have foot pain from a right foot that was injured (turned it around backwards from jumping off a horse) when I was 16. It’s bothered me for years but in the last 10 years caused great foot pain after standing or walking too long on it. Don’t have that problem now
I am also using their gel on my face along with their four facial products and see less wrinkles, it removed the bags and circles under my eyes and I look much younger.
I was a but dubious at trying it myself but after reading a number of testimonials I decided to try it. I will not stop taking it now.
Hoping it will also cure my osteoporosis Have another scan coming up this year. We shall see
I fought taking statins until I was diagnosed with a left branch bundle block (electric current issue) which can indicate some heart disease. I passed all the tests but agreed to go on the statins. Still hoping I can get my cholesterol levels down to remove the statins The ASEA didn’t help with the abnormal EKG but it hasn’t gotten worse. I assume once a heart has a problem it is not fixable. Just wish I’d heard about ASEA sooner
Am already doing that. started back last July when I went off the bone meds ... and also taking a supplement with magnesium, calcium, vitamin D, Vit k, and some other plant based minerals and cofactors. It's from Pure Synergy called Bone Renewal.
Wow! That's quite a testimonial. Do you just buy it directly or do you have to become a seller?
I became an associate bc I want to eventually pay for my own usage. I don't want to be a mega seller.
If you try it you really should try it for at least 90 days. Most people find a change then. The changes are gradual but they are happening. And when I forgot my gel when I went to travel I couldn't rub it on my varicose veins so they started to come back.
Anyway, I have several friends and a sister who is on it. My sister needs to be on 8 oz daily but she can't afford to spend enough to get there. She only takes 4 oz. daily. She hasn't seen any changes...other than more energy, but then again she was very sick in 2011 and we almost lost her to chemo. She has a partial stomach now so she probably needs to double or triple up her dosages. She just can't afford to do so.
One other friend has immune system issues and liked that it helped raise her glutathione She has been on and off of it bc of a move and I haven't gotten any updates from her if it has helped her at all.
Another friend is the one whose doctor wanted to know what she was doing for her cholestorol bc it went down to normal. Only thing she did differently was drink the water. She also mentions her enlarged veins from having her kids are no longer protruding. Her doctor was and endricronologist and has a wife who is starting a holistic practice so he was interested in learning more about the product.
It works differently for everyone. But there are great testimonies on facebook. Ask your friend who sells it to get you in there and check them out. It is a private group called: ASEA Healthy Self. So many testimonies from skin issues, burns, austic kids improving, immune system issues getting better, people going off meds...etc.
My cholesterol is > 200 and has always been, high LDL. I have high lp(a) too, which is an independent risk factor. I have it all. My Calcium score is zero, nada. Nothing - no plaque. Echo stress test of the heart: perfect. Ultrasound of the artery in the leg: perfect. I am in my 50s. Cholesterol is NOT the issue.
Ditch the carbs and the oils, go carnivore, you will lose extra weight, gain vitality, improve insulin sensitivity. Your focus should be INSULIN SENSITIVITY.

You're right about Ubiquinol, and that's what Life Extension sells the most of (check link in my comment above -- and they do have one version of Ubiquinone also). LEF actually introduced CoQ10 in America (it's all made in Japan, despite an American having discovered it) back in the '80s I think.
Definitely get on COQ10. I was on statins and was in such pain I could barely get out of bed. I stopped them against my doctor’s orders. It took me most of a year to get back to normal. The doctors are supposed to tell you to take COQ10 with the statin, but I will never take them again.
Those statins are poison. It destroys your joints. My doc put me on them about 15 years ago. I took them for a couple months, the shoulder pain was crazy. I couldn't raise my arms in front of me.
I was taking Lipitor, only reason I knew it was the Lipitor causing my joint pain is because a coworker and I started taking it at the same time and she and I both had the same reaction.
Taking CoQ10 with the statin is supposed to reduce the joint damage and reduce the pain. I would stop taking them though. Your brain needs the cholesterol.
Take some fish oil to raise your good cholesterol.
I drink a mixture few times a week to lower my bad cholesterol.
The mixture includes a tonic, here are some links that shows you how to make it.
How to make the Tonic, I included couple sites, search the internet:
https://www.yummytummyaarthi.com/heart-blockage-cure-apple-cider-vinegar/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNGnfJ5IEP0
They sell the tonic in some countries, can't find it here in the USA.
https://www.flipkart.com/organic-life-apple-cider-vinegar-ginger-garlic-lemon-honey-raw-unfiltered/p/itmaef09807fe9fe
Here is ginger juice I found on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/Ginger-People-Organic-Juice-Ounce/dp/B00HYJR9YK/ref=sxts_rp_s_a_1_0
Now that you have made the tonic, mix these items together each day and drink it down. It tastes bad, I chug it down in one drink.
Warm a cup of water in a stainless steel pot, not too hot, you have to chug it.
Stay away from Teflon pans.
In the warm water mix 1 tablespoon Braggs apple cider vinegar.
Add 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder.
Add a few dashes of black pepper to activate the Turmeric.
Add the juice from half a lemon.
Add 1 teaspoon of Cayenne pepper.
Add 1 tablespoon of the tonic.
Add couple tablespoons on Honey to sweeten it up.
Mix.
Chug it.
Edit: I have had high cholesterol my whole life, over 300 when the doctor did the blood test. I have been drinking this stuff for 10 years. I had a stress test on a treadmill about a year ago, passed with flying colors. I am 60y/o, my younger brother has already had open heart surgery for blocked coronary arteries. I am fairly certain this mixture helps prevent the plaque buildup in your arteries.
Also, the apple cider vinegar will help your body regulate your glucose. People with type 2 diabetes can cure themselves by drinking Braggs ACV. It has to be mixed in water. Drinking it straight is dangerous, burns like crazy, I did it once, never again. You can tell if you have type 2 diabetes by looking at your urine in the toilet. If it looks cloudy, that is excess sugar being eliminated. Your urine should be yellow and clear.
BTW, here is the Turmeric I use:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00307JVZ0?ref=nb_sb_ss_w_as-reorder-t1_ypp_rep_k9_1_6&=&crid=36SHAA8BT55C6&=&sprefix=tumeri
Ahh Lipitor. I took it several years ago, and I had constant muscle pain, so I stopped. My cholesterol is fine. Both my "good" and "bad" cholesterol numbers were "high" according to my practioner. Maybe still high. I don't care, the so-called cure was worse than the condition.
Lipitor,... that shit is a bunch of BS. If you are worried about your cholesterol, take a blood calcification test. When Lipitor first came out, my dr. Told me that my good was too low and my bad was too high and I should try “this new product”. Sent me home with a sample given to him by a rep from the company.
I went home, stared at the brown bag of samples, and threw it away,.... stopped going to my doctor too. That was probably 20 years ago or so.
Fast forward to today, I recently went to a local frontline practitioner. They suggested we take the calcification blood test to see if any arteries and veins might be getting clogged (I.e. calcified) as a precaution (practitioner stated, that everyone should be doing this as a baseline test). Got my results back, on a scale between 0-300, I scored a 1. Practitioner said she never has seen someone with such a low number.
I sat there and told her about the Lipitor story and was shocked by her response. She told me she remembers when Lipitor first came out, the CDC had “just updated their good/bad cholesterol numbers” (bad numbers lower and good numbers higher), which conveniently worked very well for prescribing this new miracle drug. She remembered that all doctors where handing it out like candy.
I felt like I dodged a serious bullet. That doctor 20 years ago told me I would probably be on cholesterol medicine for the rest of my life.
Btw, I never changed my diet or anything. The Whole story reminded me of the painkiller Docudrama with Michael Keaton- Dopesick.
Sounds right. I stopped all medications because one, they were making me gain weight, two they caused muscle pain, and three because it's my body and I've learned how to take care of it myself. Vitamins, supplements, herbs and keeping fit. That's all it took for me.
Ya, it took over a year for the pain to go away also, it is a horrible drug.
Not every one can handle fish oil so if you start this and don't feel right discontinue. When I have tried any fish oil supplements I swear something happens like blisters on my brain, I get completely stupid. My body just doesn't know what to do with the stuff.
Tried flax seed oil? Maybe a fish allergy or a mercury issue?
Flax doesn't seem to be much better. I never cared for fish. Tuna is about all the fish I've ever eaten. Coconut oil/capryllic acid is good for me though.
I am a fan of coconut oil though
Interesting, first I’ve heard of people having trouble with omega 3s in general. I’m going to look into it.
Have you tried MCT oil and hemp seed oil? I take microingredients fish oil and it's good. Flax seed is a phytoestrogen so I avoid that.
I've recently learned that MCT oil is the trash left over after they've extracted other parts. Just do coconut oil, get the full benefit.
Interesting. I'll have to look into that
I can do some MCT but not too much. Haven't tried hemp oil. I do seem to have trouble with any supplement that is in softgel form. I suspect I just don't have the right enzymes to handle the oils. I do take digestive enzyme supplements with meals but it doesn't seem to effect the oils in general.
Ide skip the honey because of sugar. But this is a good recipe. I use this recipe. I chug in the morning. I use pure curcumin instead of turmeric. Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric.
Cholesterol is not all bad.
Stop eating carbs.
Cholesterol is vital. God makes no mistakes.
This is the way. That and seed oils (soy, corn, etc).
Net Carbs = Total Carbs - Dietary Fiber. Keep NET carbs as low as possible.
Many also claim (and I believe) that Cholesterol in food has little to no effect on your body's cholesterol levels.
Yep, your stomach does not absorb cholesterol directly. It's made in your liver. From carbs.
I suggest you steer clear of doctors.
You spelled glorified drug pushers wrong.
Agreed. As much as possible, that is my new plan going forward.
Even years ago when I was not paying much attention, it still bothered me that no doctors were ever interested in finding and treating the root causes of any illness - only in prescribing drugs to treat the symptoms.
I have stopped taking statins, and I don't care what my cholesterol numbers happen to be going forward. If you look at any research, there is no evidence that statins provide any benefit at all - but they do have various side effects.
Big pharma keeps adjusting the cholesterol numbers so that more and more people end up with a prescription. It is very likely the whole thing is a "made up disease" from big pharma just to sell statins, which are their most profitable drugs.
Functional medicine doctors get to the root cause of illness, and most don’t take insurance for a reason. They will also force you to clean up your diet.
Constantly eating keeps the insulin high, and it never gets a chance to drop. Consider some intermittent fasting routine:
I started eating one meal a day (OMAD) about a year and a half ago because I wanted to drop a few pounds, and it ended up being the best thing I've ever done to take care of myself. I learned that most of my brain fog throughout the day was due to my body slowing down to process food. I also no longer needed a nap in the mid-afternoon. As a result of liking the way I feel now, I've started actively avoiding processed foods where possible because now that my gut is healthy, I can quickly determine what causes me to feel sick/bloated/etc. Once I dropped the weight I wanted to, I now eat when I'm hungry. Sometimes that means dinner only, but sometimes I'll have some protein in the mid-afternoon (when I used to need a nap).
Hi fren, please tell us about your routine. What food and when you eat them, did you experiment first and found your sweet spot?
Sure! My routine is typically black coffee in the morning, water all day, then dinner. Once I eat dinner, I feel free to eat whatever I want after. Most nights dinner is a protein and a lot of veggies, but tonight I scarfed down a couple of sloppy joes (lots of sports happening on Thursdays). I have just learned that consuming a starch WITH a protein causes the acidity in your stomach acid to neutralize too much to properly break down the protein, so for now, I'm trying to keep protein meals separate from starchy meals (I failed with the sloppy joes). I also keep cashews handy all the time in case I get hungry while I'm out and about. And I have no hesitation meeting up with a friend for breakfast or lunch. Since it's no longer my norm, it typically serves as a good reminder of why I don't eat like that on a regular basis anymore.
The first two weeks were HARD! By dinner I was hangry. After adjusting to it, though, it was much easier. I never experimented much with eating just breakfast only or just lunch only, but I've read about people who do that, too.
Thanks heaps for the detailed reply. I'm going to try it out. There's this kid Mikey Musumeci who only eats once a day, mainly pizza pasta at night and a world champion athlete in BJJ, so it's doable.
Haha. I would stick to healthy, unprocessed foods. Otherwise, you're just binge eating daily. Ronda Rousey is maybe a better example.
Also constantly eating crap keeps it even higher, causing insulin resistance to increase leading to diabeetus.
Crap is defined as most carbs (not fiber) and seed oils, generally speaking.
I was suspect when they changed the blood pressure recommendations also from 130 to 120 and suddenly all of the world had HBP and required medication.
Beef tallow also a good fat. And bacon drippings.
Bacon grease is the best. I love cooking bacon in a cast iron pan and then cooking eggs right afterwards in the grease.
Question...maybe you or someone else could answer this. I see seed oils mentioned a lot, but I've never seen anyone weigh in on sesame oil. Does this count as one of the bad seed oils? It has an even lower smoke point than olive oil, and Asians have been using it for a long time. Supposedly it has a lot of antioxidants. I love using sesame oil, but I do want to cut out bad oils. Does anyone have any insight?

Brazil nuts.
I will never understand how anyone could think that Brazil nuts taste good.
KEK.
Now cashews are another story ...
Grape fruit. One a day or a cup of grapefruit juice a day. Lowered my bad cholesterol by 80 points.
There is a reason, the Doctors (pharma pushers) advice against it. It works
Yeah the fix is easy.
Reduce your consumption of sugar and carbohydrates and stop consuming any food oil that is liquid at room temperature, except avocado oil.
Not even olive oil or canola, you can't eat that shit. It's not food, it's Proctor and Gamble repurposed machine oil.
When crude oil took off it replaced vegetable oils as machine oil. P&G needed a market, so they made one by convincing people that liquid vegetable and seed oils are food.
They are not. They are a low grade chronic toxin that you can extract energy from and not immediately die.
I would suggest carnivore leaning keto, but with no liquid vegetable oil or seed oils, and cut out the damn sugar.
Also eat more salt. It's actually good for you unless you have renal issues. Increased intake actually increases blood pressure regulation.
If you're really dedicated and you want to clear some issues start intermittent fasting.
When you get good at that, do a water+salt fast for 1-2 week once a year and you'll feel 20 years younger. Doctor in Germany actually prescribe fasting as treatment for lots of issues now. It works, it's safe, it's cheaper than free because you save on food.
I would suggest sea salt or better yet that pink Himalayan ancient sea salt. There are other minerals we need besides NaCl & the ancient sea had all those minerals in roughly the right proportions
^^^ Perfect

What works for me is following a Weston A Price/Wise Traditions Ancestral diet, but more carnivore and no sugar or bread. Keeps everything in check. Finally learned how to eat correctly when I got in to my 60s, but its never too late.
Here are a couple of things from my stash regarding statins:
https://deeprootsathome.com/is-your-cholesterol-really-high-tearing-down-the-cholesterol-myth
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkHettApuZI
My Doctor told me to take red yeast rice and the number went way down.
I heard an interview that said statin drugs eat the carbohydrates in your brain and you get weird mood swings and anger easily. I worked for a guy in his seventies for a long time until he started on statin drugs. Couldn’t be around him after that.
They made my muscles feel weird in the 1st few days I tried them & stopped
Go carnivore. I started with keto for a few months, lost 55 lbs. I stalled out and decided to try carnivore, beef high fat. A lot of problems changed or completely went away. Im a vet and I have a number of things that I had issues with. Sleep, joint pain, brain fog, etc. 1st week of keto I shit like crazy, then one day I woke up and felt like I took that pill from the movie limitless. I was sharp, I felt good. Then my joint paint was reduced. I could never wake up by myself and now I was up every morning at 8am. I felt so good. I lost 55 lbs and then I stalled out for a few weeks and decided to try carnivore. It took about a week for me to notice the changed. I felt strong. the desire to do things that I didnt want to do popped up. I wanted to walk, and lift weights. Seriously, carbs are poison. Cut that shit out. I also Intermittent fast, with one meal a day. I dont count calories, I just eat until im comfortably stuffed. I eat beef, eggs, bacon, butter, salt and water. The only thing that I take is and electrolyte mix in the morning. However you can get that shit from your meals. The food industry and big pharma have a vested interest in you eating their shit, and being unhealthy. You are nothing but an income source for them. I used to roll my eyes at people that said that, and now im one of them. Check out Dr. Ken Berry. Thats a good place to start. Good luck
Now, THERE is a medical doctor who HAS done his research -- and can explain it.
Sunlight is your supplement. It takes cholesterol and converts it to Vitamin D.
It made my short term memory so bad I would forget what I wanted to write down in a meeting before I could pick up my pen. I quit taking it after just two weeks.
Statins were killing my mother in law. I joined this org called Kansans for health freedom and the head of the chapter I went to is a retired nurse. She quit when she realized the lies and all those drugs/vaccines (especially statins) are not meant to help us. She didn’t go into a lot of detail I had just mentioned my mother in law and she said that blood pressure/cholesterol all those levels they say can mean different things for different people and they push those drugs unnecessarily and they are dangerous. My mother in law has been watching her diet and trying anything natural she can for over twenty years now. She didn’t take the jab because she has such a bad reaction to everything she takes- she’s had scalp, neck and shoulder problems since taking something ten years ago. I would find a naturopath or holistic doctor
Testosterone is cholesterol… gets you wondering
Interesting you mentioned that. Because of my thyroid years ago, I was placed on testosterone gel to rise my levels around 450-500. Since I’ve finally gotten to the levels after like two years, my cholesterol went up with it.
The war has always been on man and masculinity
Cholesterol is necessary for the steroid hormones....testosterone is one of them. Indeed, wondering should occur.....
They lied....Cut carbs and your labs will correct. Never take a statin drug w/o CoQ10 if you must. BTW....your body can produce cholesterol without outside sources.
Losing weight would help.
https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/17512433.2018.1519391
This is the most comprehensive study on LDL's and cholesterol. I think you will find that statins are useless and actually hurt you. The cholesterols are necessary and are in no way associated with cardiovascular disease. Please read it for yourself and do what you believe is right for you.
Eat fewer refined carbohydrates. For me loading up on vegetables in the early part of the day was the easiest way. Another easy way is to follow the "Carbohydrate addicts diet." You can read the book if you want the inspiration, but you have equal parts vegetable and protein for two meals, and then a third meal of your choice (breakfast lunch or dinner) you can have any carb you want, but only one, and you have to balance that with equal part vegetable and protein. They really want you to have the carb meal be the same meal every day so if you pick dinner, that's it. If you want a brownie after dinner, no potato. If you want a potato with dinner, no wine with dinner. If you want bread with dinner, no potato, wine or brownie, etc. They want you to eat that carb within an hour of whatever else you are eating. BTW they don't really care about the fat.
In two weeks your blood sugar is so leveled out that you won't really have sugar/carb cravings anymore. In my experience, following this diet pushed my good cholesterol way way up. My bad was borderline, but still on the okay side and they were so happy with my good that I didn't need meds. My whole family on my dad's side struggles with high cholesterol. It is a real thing and killed my dad. The scam isn't that there's no such thing, the scam is that it is more about carbohydrates than fat, and you can bring it down without medication.
At a minimum, change statins. I was on simvastatin for years and had all sorts of soft tissue/ligament problems plus plantar fasciiatis. I switched to rovustatin (Lipitor) and all the side effects went away. Changing your diet will help too. Despite what a lot of people say about going paleo or keto or all meat/cheese, some people like me, convert those foods to HDL. Lots of fruits and veggies help.
I read through the replies and there is much here that will help you. No one has mentioned Berberine. My story was similar to yours in that I took statins for awhile and felt miserable. My wife was into alternative medicines and took a newsletter from a Dr. Whittaker. He had an article recommending Berberine. It worked for me.... been taking it for a long time. Numbers are good. https://www.healthydirections.com/articles/blood-sugar/what-is-berberine-research-and-benefits
Most of the cholesterol floating around in your blood is actually produced by your own body. Cholesterol is essential but too much can cause blockages in blood vessels. Diet helps a little but main focus should be losing fat and detoxing your liver. NAC helps with liver detoxing and is OTC and relatively cheap. Not a doctor, not medical advice, just things to research. Think of high cholesterol as s symptom, not as the problem. You should look into a diet that targets fatty liver disease. Coffee good, fruits and veggies good, avoid salt, sugar, seed oils and trans fats.
Edit: Protein at EVERY meal.
I liken cholesterol to little ambulances. If your body is calling 911 and sending out a bunch of little ambulances to repair your health, the answer is not to reduce the size of the ambulance fleet, which is all statins do.
I look at it that way too! It's weird the sort of plug & chug mentality that they ingrain in doctors these days. .
I take between 6-800mg of COQ10...helps tremendously with joint pain and muscle pain. I'm in same boat with statin and cholesterol meds. I take them daily. Goodluck. You can get reasonably at costco :)
Go ketogenic, or strictly avoid carbs afternoon until next day, no evening carbs, avoid bad cheap oils, use only high quality olive oil, pure grass butter, coconut oil, do a liver, gallbladder cleanse, you'll need naturopath advice for that, avoid any food in packages, eat home cooked, this saved my husband
Took statins. Developed plantar facsitis. Started getting intense burning pain in feet. Numbness in fingers. Stopped statins -- against Dr. advice but after talking to my cardiologist. Instant relief. Pain subsiding. Take co q 10. Don't take statins.
GREAT POST - I'M SAVING IT. I was on Lipitor and noticed I was getting forgetful. I was told that the brain needs cholesterol and we're depriving it for the lesser evil of a clot. I was told what would you rather die from - a clot or Alzheimers. Never heard of Alzheimers until statins were pushed.
Lots of good advice given here by those who actually tried as opposed to google advice. Thanks again.
Definitely lose the 5lbs. And take Omega 3 from fish oil, try for around 3000mg a day, it’s shown to be as helpful as statins.
Got off the phone with the doctor and she said the same thing. 👍
You can take fasting and ketogenic diet. Look up Eric Berg on cholesterol
Our medical system has a bad habit of treating the symptoms without treating the problem.
Several people have pointed out that cholesterol is used to repair damage to veins and arteries, and this is true. But the body's preferred method of healing this damage is vitamin C.
Increase your intake of natural vitamin C, and your body won't need to produce cholesterol to heal itself. I recommend frozen wild blueberries - they're packed with all kinds of antioxidants including vitamin C. And the frozen state keeps the berries from using up their nutrients through respiration.
Nattokinase.

Your doctor has either bought the lie or is paid off.
Cholesterol is an essential building block of your body.
iMO, throw the statins in the garbage, don't eat food loaded with ingredients (just eat eggs, fish, beef, etc.), go for a walk, and you'll be fine. Supplement with D and K and NOT Calcium.
